Project overview
Dearadh Zu was appointed to develop the design for the new Dinosaur walk-through experience at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
The development will occupy a site of 1.2 Ha on the edge of the new central lake. This development will create a unique visitor experience to be enjoyed by visitors, young and old, and expand on the wildlife park's current entertainment offering, diversifying from the animal attractions.
Pangea will offer an immersive, pre-historic experience, where visitors will embark on a journey through five unique ‘biomes’, each home to over 30 life-sized, moving, ROARING Dinosaurs! The animatronic dinosaurs, ranging from tiny raptors to huge Brontosaurs, will be nestled into the existing landscape of the site, creating an immersive Dinosaur-themed area. The site will be split into a series of habitat types, from forests and wetlands to arid desert zones, enhancing the immersive experience.

Key project features
The planting design that Dearadh Zu produced for the development has been developed to evoke those prehistoric landscapes with their characteristic flora. A central island on the lake has been used as part of this development, and guests will cross a bridge to access a range of dinosaur sculptures. Along the winding footpaths, visitors will come face to face with the terrifying T. rex, the villainous Velociraptors and giant sauropods. The landscape design utilises landforms to screen views and create that sense of excitement as you pass from one biome to another.
As guests journey and adventure through the site, they will be educated on some of the world's biggest (long lost) creatures with a selection of information boards. The new area at Yorkshire Wildlife Park has close links to the entrance HUB where the fun will continue in themed Dinosaur restaurants and gift shops. This development is equipped with interactive features such as spitting dinosaurs, moving sculptures and sound systems that continue to connect the visitor’s senses within the overall immersive experience.
